An American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry survey showed that 99.7% of the adult participants believed a healthy smile was socially important. Furthermore, 74% of the participants believed that career opportunities could be reduced if they had an unattractive smile. Given these and other survey results, it would make sense for people to visit the dentist on a regular basis. However, the average time between dental appointments was three years.
The survey also indicated that 32% of the participants were “concerned by the look of their teeth.” As a result, 18% concealed their teeth when having a photo taken. While there may be a number of reasons why these individuals were concerned with the appearance of their teeth, it may be as simple as needing their teeth whitened.
People in the United States spend roughly $1.4 billion on teeth whitening products every year. Ironically, these products take time to work and they aren’t as effective as a professional teeth whitening. When someone wants to know how to whiten teeth fast, this is just one of the many services that can be provided by a dentist. Since the best teeth whitening method is a professional cleaning, after having their teeth whitened by a dentist, 82.5% of the individuals in the survey noticed a difference.
When comparing teeth whitening costs at a dentist’s office with the costs of over-the-counter products, the overall cost over time is considerably less. Furthermore, teeth whitening costs are minimal when considering the benefits of a healthy and attractive smile.
Periodontal disease and cavities can be minimized, prevented, and/or treated with regular visits to the dentist. Just 22% of the survey participants said they flossed on a daily basis, and 75% indicated that they didn’t replace their toothbrushes as often as they should. it’s therefore not that surprising to learn that a minimum of one in five people has at least one or more untreated cavities.
In addition to scheduling dental appointments to maintain a bright smile, it’s also important to screen for cavities, periodontal disease, and other issues. It’s important to remember that when someone has good oral hygiene and health, it can make a positive effect on their overall health and state of mind.
